3dRender.com : Glossary : Progressive Scan

Progressive Scan - a type of display that does not split each frame into fields, and instead scans directly through all the scanlines of each frame in order.  Progressive scan is used by computer monitors, and some advanced television and high-definition television systems.  Some digital camcorders can optionally shoot progressive scan images, which allows for clearer still images to be extracted from the recording.
